Getting Over It Wiki

Sexy Hiking is the game that inspired Bennett Foddy to make Getting Over It. The person who made the game went by "Jazzuo" and is, according to Bennett, from the Czech Republic. This game is quite glitchy and has broken collisions, making it easy to clip through most objects.

You can use F5 to save a location and F6 to teleport to the saved location, which can prevent you from needing to go through obstacles multiple times. This is not possible in Getting Over It.

Gameplay[]

The gameplay in Sexy Hiking is almost the exact same as in Getting Over It. Unlike Getting Over It, Sexy Hiking has four levels for you to complete, instead of one huge level. You must complete them in one go, because if you quit the game (pressing ESC closes it), you will have to start from the first level, as the game does not save your progress. You move your hammer and climb up cliffs and trees to reach the end of the level. You have to finish each level by touching an angry, spinning face which marks the end of the level (touching it with the hammer does not count).

Starting with level 3, there are ropes. They are like normal blocks, however they don't collide with anything unless the left mouse button is held, in which case, your hammer can collide with ropes. At level 3 and later, there are also moving blocks.

Level 1 has a blue background, a dead tree, and a wall at the end which you need to climb. You can fall out of the map by moving to the left at the start.

Level 2 has a cyan background, and most of it consists of a big wall which you need to climb.

Level 3 also has a cyan background, and has another dead tree. This level introduces ropes and moving blocks. Unlike other levels, the clouds are visible at the spawn point, and you have to move down to reach the end of the level, instead of up.

Level 4 has the same background color as level 2 and 3, but most of it is covered with a waterfall. This level is big, and is the final and hardest level of the game. Reaching the end will open a window with top 10 players (which doesn't seem to work properly, and can sometimes screenshot a part of the screen the size of the window, for no apparent reason. If you move the window so that a part of it is outside of the screen, that portion of the screenshot will disappear and you can remove the screenshot piece by piece so it doesn't cover the list).

Completing the game (beating the 4th level) will ask the player if they want to see the reward. Selecting "YES!!!!!!!" will play a low-quality song congratulating the player on finishing all the levels, and a grayscale picture of the creator will appear on the screen with some text scrolling. The player either has a choice to wait until the music ends to see some more text, or close the game already. However, when the text appears after waiting, the game will stop responding and crash, without setting your screen resolution back to what it was, forcing you to manually change it through settings. Selecting "No" will send you back to the menu, and this is the only way to return to the menu without closing and reopening the game.

Trivia[]

  • You can walk with the arrow keys. This only allows you to move horizontally, and since you can use your hammer instead, this is not possible in Getting Over It.
  • Opening the task manager will crash the game with an error.
  • Sexy Hiking was released in 2002, making it 20 years old as of 2022.
  • Every few minutes, the game freezes for a moment to restart the music.
  • You are forced to play this game in fullscreen at 640x480 resolution. There are black borders at the edges instead of stretching the content.
    • If you increase the resolution through system settings, the game will be in the top left corner, instead of stretching. Jumping straight to 1920x1080 resolution will break the game, making it completely black, though going to a smaller resolution (but higher than 640x480) first and then to 1920x1080 for some reason doesn't break it.
      • Increasing resolution while in a level, even if to just 800x600, will make the game completely black.
  • In level two, you can get yourself stuck by launching yourself off of the cliff and putting your hammer around the wall you start next to.
  • The world record for completing this game was in 47 seconds by Deffar.
  • In Getting Over It, Bennet Foddy referred back to this game by saying it was the idea he got for Getting Over It. He also said various things about this game.
  • The game is only allowed to use 16 MB of ram.
  • If you fall out of the map, a monkey screaming sound will play, and the character will move up to the beginning of the level.
